In the spring of 2011, history will be made again. MDRA in association with ROCKETS Magazine will be launching Vern Hoag’s 1:9-scale Saturn 1-B and Steve Eves’s two-stage Saturn 1-B at Higgs Farm in Price, Maryland. These museum quality projects will stand twenty-four feet tall and will weigh in at over seven hundred pounds. They are scheduled to be launched on the same day at a dedicated launch, (TDB, April, 2011).

This is your opportunity to be part of rocketry history. ROCKETS Magazine is looking for your support and help in sponsoring the motors and the general effort to facilitate both flights. In order to fly these world-class projects, Steve and Vern need your help.

The motor-sponsorship opportunity for Vern Hoag’s single-stage Saturn 1B is as follows: Vern’s rocket will be launched on eight 98-mm motors. There will be four M-3400 motors and four N-2500 motors. All of the motors will be produced by Cesaroni Technologies, CTI. Both sets of motors are certified. The M-3400 propellant retails for $569.95. The N-2500 propellant retails for $799.95. Thanks to the generous discount offered by Anthony Cesaroni and Tim Lehr, you will receive the 9994 Ns casing and the propellant for the M-3400 for $420.00 or the 13676 Ns casing and propellant for the N-2500 for $480.00. After the flight, you will keep the motor casing and closures. Anthony Cesaroni and / or Dr. Jeroen Louwers and /or qualified Cesaroni representatives will assemble all of the CTI motors.

Thanks Tim, Should be a couple of pretty cool flights. Both Steve and I are around 94,680 ns, so into a Q motor range. A year and 3 months have gone pretty fast. I am hoping to have it painted by March 19 and bring it out to Bong.

WOOSH is sponsoring one of Vern’s M3400 motors. The club passed the virtual hat to raise the funds – 20 contributors at $21 each. How about a TWA sponsored motor? The club keeps the case.

Looks like I am not going to be able to bring the Saturn 1b out this month. Just way to much to do and I want to make sure the clear coat has time to harden for a while. So looks like the next time I will be out at Bong is June.
