The ?Great Midwest Magg Race 2007? will be held at the TWA launch at Bong on August 18. The drag race will occur at 12 noon; this means you must have your rocket RSO?d and loaded on the pad before noon. Please have your rocket through the RSO by 11:45. Rules for this year?s event are as follows:

-The rocket must be a stock, modified, or scratch built Minie Magg. The rocket must pass through the RSO prior to flight. If it resembles a Magg, it may participate.
-Any certified motor is allowed.
-The winner is to be the owner of the rocket that is safely flown and recovered CLOSEST TO THE PAD. The rocket must leave the pad with the other rockets on the first try (no recycles), and be returned in flyable condition (just like a cert flight).
-Unlike last year, each flyer supplies their own ignitor.

Any questions, just yell.

Scotty G,

No minimum motor size, however the rocket must still pass through RSO. Make sure you have a 5:1 thrust ratio and you should be ok. I am guessing we'll see a few G motors.

Thanks for the nice Dynastar kit from Als' Hobbies for the win yesterday guys.
I had a lot of fun, you should have stuck around the weather was on and off all afternoon. We even had some scouts show up to launch rockets. Just goes to show, if you don't like the weather just wait a minute, It'll change.

Despite threatening weather and present rain, the Minie Magg Drag Race occurred at high noon on Saturday, August 18 at Bong. Being that the contest was closest to the pad, 3 flyers opted to fly VERY low using G motors. Scott Goebel and Kristin Olson chose the 81.5 Ns Aerotech G104T. Ken Herrick chose the Aerotech G67R for another low altitude flight. Mike Dybul?s extended Magg flew an H180 so low the laundry didn?t have time to come out. Without having the flight cards to aid my memory, Greg Trovillian, Paul Barina, Al Casper, and John Gaskill all went with Aerotech White Lightning I motors as their choice propellant. Eric Cayemberg flew an AMW I285GG. Frank Nobile?s Magg stayed on the pad during the drag race, but flew later on an Aerotech white I.

Ken from Al?s Hobby donated a DynaStar Rip-Roar 2-stage rocket as the prize to the winner. The 2.2? diameter mid power bird will be put to good use by the Woosh leader. Scott Goebel was declared the winner of the contest after landing his Magg on the pad next to the one it left from. Apogee on the rocket was probably a whopping 150? on the G104, followed by a nice spot landing.

Phil Stephan and Kevin Keehn were there, but were unable to launch their Maggs. The race turned out quite well for the weather we had. To the best of my knowledge, all Maggs were recovered intact, and in good condition. I?d imagine if the weather had been better, we?d have had a few more participants.

See pics and Scotty G?s video of the launch at: http://www.tripoliwisconsin.org/Minnie%20Magg%202007/index.html

Thanks to all the participants, to TWA for hosting the launch, and to Ken Herrick of Al?s Hobby Shop for donating the prize. We?ll be doing it all over again late summer next year, so have your Minie Maggs ready. See you at Midwest Power!
