Sorry to hear about that. I was suppose to fly as well, but decided not to because of the cloud cover. Im the guy you helped look for a rocket last month in the cornfield. Hopefully I'll see you up there next month.

Oh Hey , hows it goin ? I thought you`d be there. It was good. the clouds were low but still easy to see the Mini Magg. The problem was the wind. I`d say a good 10 mph out of the WSW for my 1st launch. So I compensated and launched into the wind but the wind had changed and was coming out of the NW now. It blew mine and another guys Magg over the tree line and into the cornfield. My girlfriend and I went through the corn for about an hour or so and gave up. I had an alarm on it but couldnt hear anything.
I remember yours on that Ellis Mtn motor. Yours is WAY the F out there.
Im pissed ... lost my 1st and fav hi power rocket , and lost a case and motor closures. About $200+ loss. Im gonna try and go up there and root around the corn again before the farmer plows it and chews up my rocket. See ya up there next month ( I hope )

I found mine here: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/velviajohn/minimag.jpg if that helps. I would imagine that yours would be on the same line as mine but not as far, since they both came down at the same time. Good luck.

Hey JOHN ! I was wondering if you ever found yours. You think for sure ours were on the same line ? I know mine came down first and a little closer. Melissa and I went back in there and searched the whole yellow oval I had plotted out. Didnt find it. Any part of your rocket like the chute stay up on top of the corn ? I was thinking of climbing a tree and using binoculars. hmmmmm.... well thx a ton for the reply. That helps and gives me hope ;-)

They seemed to be on the same line as they were coming down, didn't they? I remember at one point they were almost superimosed on each other and the LCO trying to decide which one was higher. That would make your oval just about right on. Maybe to the western side of it. The whole thing was strung across the corn like Christmas tree lights. It was mostly about a foot down from the top of the corn. I would have not seen it from 5 ft away if I didn't look up. You may be able to see it with binocs from a tree. That corn was pretty thick and you had a bigger chute so it may have hung up higher. I lost my first mid power rocket there years ago and posted it in the old lost and found. It was an Aerotech initiater named G-spot. Got it back a year and a half later. It wasn't flyable but it was great to get it back none the less. Its hanging in the basement now.

Yeah they looked kinda superimposed. I know yours was higher. Congrats on the win ;-) What did you win ?
Im gonna try and go there this week and root around. I gotta get it before the farmer plows the field. You think Im definitley in the field ? Maybe its short and in the trees and pricker bushes. I gotta get a transmitter or something. Maybe I`ll just aim it straight north next time ;-)
Year and a half and you got it back. cant believe that. I bet it was full of spiders. lol.

thx again man :-)

Kyle, I remember yours being North of John's by probably 100-200 feet, and most likely closer to the launch site, so West of John's by maybe 300 feet or more. From my perspective and memory anyway. Hope you find it!

How to use a pocket GPS to walk a straight line.

1. Stand in the exact place from where you originally watched your rocket flight.
2. Using a handheld GPS, mark/record this spot as a "WayPoint". (point of origin)
3. Next, In the GPS unit: Select "GoTo" this WayPoint,
(yes. you DO want to GO TO where you already are, but:
We're going to work this problem backwards, ok?
4. From that point:
Walk that straightest line you possibly can toward where you saw your rocket come down.
5. As you initially walk the line:
Get the GPS bearing angle back to WHERE YOU WERE ORIGINALLY STANDING!
6. Memorize that bearing angle number. And the WayPoint number. Your rocket is on this line. Keep all of this data until you get your rocket. Months if necessary.
7. Keep walking that same bearing angle. Stay on it.
8. After you go thru the trees: USE THE GPS to GET BACK ON THAT LINE.
9. Walk farther than you thought. Weave left and right a little.

Went out there Wed. evening from 4:30 - 7:30 pm and searched. I stood (behind Tims trailer <I think>) where I saw it come down and remember the tree it came down behind so I pretty much have the line. Took satellite image with me and walked the line best I could til it got thick. Marked points along the way. Went up and down rows of cornfield , left pink ribbons behind me to show where ive been. I climbed 2 differnt trees and scanned the cornfield with binoculars. Didnt see anything. Searched the thick stuff before the cornfield too... nothing.
Its not like I have a $500 rocket with electronics in it ..only a Mini Magg...but I want it back.
Heres a pic I made up ....
http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3256215 The yellow bar is where Tim parks. Correct ? The blue dots are points I remember looking at when it came down. Pink dot is where John said he found his.

Thanks Pb , Im gonna get me one of them Garmin GPS things soon. And maybe a 130 dB alarm. I had a 110 dB on it , but never heard it. Maybe it never went off or I just didnt get near it.

In my search , I found 3 other rockets. an Estes Blue ninja with a D12-5 in it .

an Estes Menace (white) C6-3 in it

and some big L2 or L3 rocket .... top portion came in ballistic ... stuck in dirt about 1ft down ... bright copper/gold color , orange and blue shock cords , orange chute , quick links , some electronics , 9V battery , nose cone is compacted . Dont see fins or rings or motor casing so I guess it seperated.
I`ll bring em up to the next launch.

The farmer is gonna plow the corn any day now. I gotta find it. $50 reward for anyone who does :-)

I do hope you find your Minnie Magg. If worse comes to worse, my fleet of four Maggs can be reduced to three if you're interested in a built Magg that has never flown. It is blue and white. You can have it for the reward money you're offering.

Thx Cliff , I might take you up on that offer but I`m gonna look some more. Wow a fleet of 4 ! Cool !

Ken , I might go up there and look around again on Sunday (weather permitting) I`ll try find the booster section. Its gotta be near the same place the top part stuck in the ground.
